basically, Uncle Tom decided that me and my friend Colleen should get married. So he added me on facebook.
Then when I thought of this gem the other day, I posted it on her wall.
Much to our mutual amusement, Uncle Tom both liked the post and decided to ask a rather important question.

Major Facebook pages getting mass-spammed by pro-Muslim activists
In an effort to draw attention to the controversial YouTube video that has sparked major protests in the Middle East and may have led to the death of a U.S. ambassador, protesters have taken to a number of major news and celebrity Facebook pages to spam a variation of the above message — no matter on which post. The message here is from the Sky News page; other pages that have been hit include Reuters, The Washington Post, Barack Obama and Michael Phelps. The New York Times has more info on the controversial video that sparked these protests.

i think this is SO relevant. if someone made a video about the holocaust, misrepresenting the jews or something on the level of what people in the US say about Islam, there would be worldwide protests, immediate denouncing, and so much more.
seriously, i am so sick of hearing about the evils of islam. let’s grow up and listen to the people who practice it and maybe realize that the taliban and al Quaeda ≠ Islam.
and for the love of all things deemed holy by every religion ever can we PLEASE as a society stop using the word Islamist. like. i don’t even want to talk about this anymore.

When did Yahoo hire the Winklevosses?

In what is either the boldest gamble of its history or the most boneheaded, Yahoo has filed a massive patent infringement lawsuit against Facebook.

The attack by the Internet icon against perhaps the most powerful consumer social networking site today is a controversial one, pitting Yahoo against a company that has surpassed it handily in recent years.

Click through to read more from All Things D.

Wow. What a stupid move by Yahoo. Could not imagine this being a good idea.

Today in “Companies that fell out of success by not reinvigorating their business plans and now want to scape off of successful businesses.”

I guess it happens enough to be a thing.

Having too many Facebook friends can make you depressed

shortformblog:

  • 354Facebook friends ought to be your limit source

» There’s nothing wrong with denying that friend request: A recent study presented at the annual Society for Personality and Social Psychology meeting asked a group of participants to check their friend’s status updates. After doing so, they rated their lives as “much less satisfying” than a group that didn’t check their news feed. They looked at how many friends the users had, and found that 354 friends was roughly the point at which reading status updates started making them sad. The theory is that status updates often paint a disproportionately positive picture of peoples’ lives. Readers of said updates compare their own lives to those represented in status updates, and figure that they’re having a lot less fun than everybody else. The solution, then, is to either clean up your friends list, or become befriend a bunch of depressed misanthropes.

I dont agree with this. I think in today’s age, denying a friend request is equivalent to a slap in the face (and deleting a friend is a kick in the groin).  I block people I don’t know well or don’t talk to much from my newsfeed, but still have them as friends as a courtesy because I think it is rude to deny or delete unless I have an actual problem with the person.  Perhaps I am different in that way.  But I would hazard a guess that I regularly pay attention to about half of my friends on facebook, perhaps less in the 300-400 range, so I suppose that statistic could be true.  Though I never compare my life to theirs unless I am making fun of them………haha
